what's different about this comm?
we are in no way affliated with coast. we allowed them to use our rules and guidelines, but now we've decided to open up monterey in hopes of providing a community where all characters interact and write together. inclusivity is a big deal here and we're going to make it our goal to ensure everyone has a place. rp is a hobby we love and want to reinvigorate. with that said, we want to be the change and hope this community works out to please everyone, if not the majority that are looking for a home for their characters. we know people want to write, so we want to give members every opportunity to do just that. on a monthly basis, the mods will host a community "in-person" event where plotting will be f2f focused. this means we will be writing together as a group in group threads and you are encouraged to join. these will range from bar or restaurant openings to music festivals, farmer's markets, and other public gatherings to encourage collaboration.

we will host update challenges like collaborative updates with someone of your choosing. you'll also have the opportunity to sign up for update buddies where you'll be paired with someone to write an update together of your choosing. it's not limited to a joint narrative.

we know it's difficult to feel comfortable in a place that feels cliquey which is why we want to encourage those joining to keep preplanned lines to a minimum. we highly encourage going the organic route, but don't want to make this an organic only community because we do recognize it's easier to break in when there are connections already made. our suggestion is to stick with immediate family and roommates if you want to come in with connections. ultimately, it's up to you.

mods are here to help ensure members feel comfortable writing their characters and that everyone follows the general guidelines set forth. that being said, we do make mistakes. if any issues arise, we ask that you give us the benefit of the doubt and come talk to us. if you're having any issues with other members, don't hesitate to reach out. if something makes you uncomfortable, speak up. we want to be respectful of everyone enjoying this hobby and we hope the respect is returned.

basic rules
we'll keep this short and simple since most of this (if not all) is common knowledge and courtesy. 1. don't carry ic drama ooc and create a whole uproar because of something that should remain in character. not everyone will get along ic and that's okay, but we expect respect ooc despite what issues may arise in game. please respect each other.
2. no white washing. there are plenty of pbs for you to choose from that all come from a diversity of backgrounds.
3. stick to making your character within 5 years of your pb's real age. age up or down, we don't care, so long as it's within 5 years. also, keep everyone above the age of 18.
4. we are strictly a no wire/discord/other apps community. we get that it's convenient and ij goes down from time to time, but our focus is on an active fp and writing. the only way this community will thrive is if members keep the fp moving. please note if we see wire handles or discord usernames on the fp or in your info, you will be removed.
if you see anyone breaking these rules, please let us know here.

joining
when it comes to applying, you will need: ↪ an ic journal name with two backdated posts (ic and ooc).
↪ basic information like legal name, character claim, d.o.b. & age, hometown, occupation, and a biography or facts that give us an understanding of your character.
↪ one threading example and one narrative example.
you will have 48 hours to post an intro in the main community. failure to do so or request an extension will result in removal during the next set of adds.

we won't be responding to any inquiries on rejections. please don't pm us or comment us asking. if it's something fixable like needing more information on your character because you haven't meet the requirements, we will reach out.

ACTIVITY
we want a thriving community which means we do have activity requirements like all other communities, but we have a multiude of options for your updates. two updates are required per month. what those updates consist of are up to you.

the only other requirement is one must be interactive and you must respond to most comments for it to count as an update. we'd love to see narratives, roundups, social media posts, all that good stuff.

you may substitute an interactive update for a plot post so long as you comment the majority (preferably all) people and you may substitute an update with comments disabled for a thread you have written with another character every other month.
